Woodchuck's Vermont Partnerships

We are so proud to call Vermont home, and part of being a good neighbor is partnering with those in your community to make it a better place. Below you will find a description of some of these partnerships that are very important to us.

Pick For Your Neighbor Program

Each Fall we partner with the Vermont Foodbank to pick and donate more than 5,000 pounds of apples annually to families in need. Since 2009 this program has provided over 100,000 pounds of locally grown fruit to Vermonters in need. With help from volunteers all over the state, Vermont Foodbank uses its network of food shelves and meal sites to distribute healthy food options statewide.

Cow Power

Each year we send about 170,000 gallons of cider process waste to Monument Farms where it serves as a yummy snack for our bovine friends. From here, their manure is held in a digester, allowing methane gas to rise to the top of the tank. A generator then converts the methane gas into electricity which is distributed through our community, while the remaining manure liquid is used to fertilize crops. Cow power not only keeps our waste out of the waste stream, but it also allows us to reduce our carbon emissions while giving back to our local farmers.

Solar Orchard

In 2013, we installed a solar orchard just a few minutes down the road from our cidery with the help of our friends at AllEarth Renewables. When this project first broke ground, we predicted it would produce 200,000 kWh (kilo-watt hours) of electricity in the first year. In 2018, 232,087 kWh of electricity was produced! Today, about 14% of our power comes from the solar orchard in Bridport, VT.

Appalachian Trail Conservancy

In the month of June 2019, Woodchuck will donate $1 for every post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #ChuckLovesATC. They will donate a minimum of $10,000 and up to $15,000. The funds raised will go to helping preserve open areas along the Vermont portion of the Appalachian Trail. Woodchuck staff members will also take a day to help maintain an open area with ATC staff members and Trail management partners from the Green Mountain Club.

Barney-Sunrise Orchard

Sunrise Orchards located in Cornwall, Vermont has been a great partner of Woodchuck’s for many years. We have worked with them and invested in projects that will help the production of cider apples in Vermont. We currently use juice from Sunrise’s apples for our 802 Collection varieties and our recent collaboration with Farnum Hill Ciders Odd Crush.

Ski Vermont

As the official Hard Cider Sponsor of Ski Vermont, we partner with this incredible organization to share Vermont’s natural beauty with others. Ski Vermont is a non-profit that brings together our home state’s vast array of ski areas to address environmental, governmental, and economic issues.

We now stretch across the country, but our roots remain firmly entrenched here in our home state. This cider was handcrafted using apples solely from our orchard partners in Vermont. It is light and crisp, semi-dry, and a pure reflection of the fantastic apple crop Vermont is known for. A local nectar crafted with the help of our neighbors, to be enjoyed wherever Vermonters gather.
