Woodchuck Presents: Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday

As the original American hard cider, we have a bit of history in our back pocket.  It’s high time we started sharing some of that history and pairing it with some cultural highlights of years gone by.  Let’s call it Throwback Thursday, Woodchuck® Style.

Best grab your Starter Jacket because for this first installment, we’re taking it back to 1991.  The Grunge Revolution was beginning to build steam with the likes of Nirvana and Pearl Jam.  Stone-washed jeans and Reebok pumps were all the fad, and Super Nintendo was just being released in the U.S.

Head up north to Proctorsville, VT during that time, and you find the start of the Woodchuck story.  A wine maker decided to tinker with apples in a two car garage and Woodchuck Amber is born.  The recipe remains the same today… we just make more of  it!

What else was happening in 1991?

  • The Internet is made available for unrestricted commercial use and the number of computers on the internet reaches 1 million.
  • Operation Desert Storm begins with air strikes against Iraq.
  • The NY Giants win the Super Bowl XXV beating the Buffalo Bills by just one point. It is the only Super Bowl to be decided by one point to this day.
  • The price of gas hovered around $1 a gallon!
