Woodchuck Granny Smith Sausage Stuffing

You know it’s Thanksgiving when you walk into the kitchen and your senses are filled with that mouth-watering smell of stuffing. Whether baked in a pan, or cooked right in the turkey, this flavor burst of a dish is often the first hit on the buffet line.
Woodchuck Granny Smith Sausage Stuffing!
This Sausage and Cider Stuffing is made with one of Woodchuck’s core ciders, Granny Smith. Tart and refreshing, this cider is made from 100% granny smith apples. Combining this tasty cider with both sausage, and other stuffing essentials, this recipe is the perfect combination of sweet and savory.
Sausage and Woodchuck® Granny Smith Cider Stuffing
Makes 8-10 servings.
- 5 ½ cups of cubed white bread (can be replaced with whole wheat!)
- ¾ cup of Woodchuck® Granny Smith Cider
- 1 lb. of ground sausage
- 1 tbsp. of vegetable oil
- 1 cup of chopped onion
- 1 granny smith apple, chopped
- ¾ cup of celery
- 4 tbsp. of unsalted butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 ½ tsp. of dried sage
- 1 ½ tsp. of rosemary
- ½ tsp. of thyme
- Dried cranberries to garnish
Preheat the oven to 350° F.
After preparing your cubed bread, spread on a baking sheet and stick in the oven for 5-7 minutes until the bread is toasted. Take out and cool.
In a saucepan, add the vegetable oil and the ground sausage, stirring and sautéing until thoroughly cooked. Take off the burner, and let cool.
While the cooked sausage and bread are cooling, prepare the granny smith apple, celery, and onion. Keep the chopped apple and celery raw, but sauté the onion until softened. Combine the granny smith apple, celery, and onion in a large bowl.
In a smaller separate bowl, combine the eggs, softened butter, and Woodchuck Granny Smith Cider. Whisk together only until mixed. Once evenly mixed, add the dried sage, rosemary, and thyme to the bowl.
At this point, both the bread and sausage should have cooled. Add the cubed bread and sausage to the large bowl with the chopped apple, celery, and onion, and stir.
Take the smaller bowl with the whisked mixture and also add to the larger bowl, stirring until evenly distributed throughout the mix.
In a 9 X 13” greased baking pan, evenly pour and spread the contents of the mixture, and cover with tinfoil. First, bake covered for 30 minutes. Take the tinfoil off of the stuffing, stir up the mixture, and bake for another 15-20 minutes. (If you prefer, this recipe can also be prepared, and stuffed into a 10+ lb. turkey!)
Take out of the oven, garnish, and serve!
