Twenty-four years ago, we had the Gumption to ignite the comeback of the American craft cider industry. We’ve had the Gumption to push the limits of innovation and infuse the CRAZIEST AND MOST AWESOME things into our ciders. (Chocolate? Mint? Hops? Oh, they’re just a few!) We continue to have the Gumption to go above and beyond for our devoted fans, and combine our own passion with that of theirs.

Introducing WOODCHUCK® GUMPTION™!
To wrap up the 1st Annual Vermont Cider Week, the Woodchuck® Cider Makers are taking innovation to another level. Not only will they be tapping new, never released styles, but they’ve been prepared in… a firkin! This weekend will be the first ever Cider House Firkin Weekend. Are you finding yourself thinking … “What the firk is a Firkin?” Let us help you out:
A Firkin: A type of keg used for cask conditioning. Firkins can be wooden or metal, and carry one quarter of a barrel, 72 pints, or 9 imperial gallons.
How is this vessel tapped? Well it can get a bit messy! (but messy is fun right?) The keg is laid down on its side, and the spout is driven right through the head horizontally. With only the addition of a breathing tube, the cider will flow only with natural carbonation and gravity.

The world of hard cider has grown so much since we first started crafting our small batches back in 1991. Today cider makers from around the state of Vermont kick off the first annual Vermont Cider Week! We couldn’t be more excited for a full week dedicated to our favorite apple libation.
We’re hosting a ton of events right here at the Cidery in Middlebury, VT as well as events going on around the state! From cheese pairings courtesy of our friends at Cabot Creamery to special guest chats with folks who work with the apples so crucial to our locally made cider, this week is going to be awesome. There is no other word for it. We’re even dedicating a couple of days where our cider makers will break out some firkins of some very experimental batches! You do not want to miss what’s coming up this week at the Cider House.
What gets our wheels turning here at the Cidery? The passion and originality of the Woodchuck fans!
