As the original American hard cider, we have a bit of history in our back pocket. It’s high time we started sharing some of that history and pairing it with some cultural highlights of years gone by. Let’s call it Throwback Thursday, Woodchuck® Style.
Best grab your Starter Jacket because for this first installment, we’re taking it back to 1991. The Grunge Revolution was beginning to build steam with the likes of Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Stone-washed jeans and Reebok pumps were all the fad, and Super Nintendo was just being released in the U.S.
Head up north to Proctorsville, VT during that time, and you find the start of the Woodchuck story. A wine maker decided to tinker with apples in a two car garage and Woodchuck Amber is born. The recipe remains the same today… we just make more of it!
What else was happening in 1991?
The Internet is made available for unrestricted commercial use and the number of computers on the internet reaches 1 million.
Operation Desert Storm begins with air strikes against Iraq.
The NY Giants win the Super Bowl XXV beating the Buffalo Bills by just one point. It is the only Super Bowl to be decided by one point to this day.
Our latest cider straight from Woodchuck cellar is hitting shelves nationwide! Woodchuck Cellar Series Smoked Apple is a full-bodied deep amber cider featuring crisp apple notes and hints of vanilla on an applewood smoked backdrop. A well-balanced, limited run cider that is perfect for the cooler days ahead.
As the breathtaking foliage consumes the mountains, and hay bales blanket the farmer’s fields, we watch the trees fill with red, juicy apples.
What comes with apples? The season for aroma-filled, mouth-watering, never-ending apple pie! For months, this delectable and flavorful dish acts as a staple for every dinner party’s dessert. Paired with a sharp slice of cheddar, or a smooth scoop of vanilla ice cream, this indulgence never disappoints.
With an endless amount of recipes for such a simple pie, each piece consumed during the season has its own flair… and we’ve got one more for you to try!
We here at Woodchuck have been waiting months, (actually more like years), for this moment. A moment that would not only set down our roots for the long haul in Vermont, but also serve as a new destination for the fans of Woodchuck Hard Cider.
Woodchuck® Cellar Series Dry Hop is now on shelves across the country. Its an exciting hard cider born from the many test batches of cider we experiment with in the cidery cellar. We sat down with Cider Maker John Matson, to talk a little more about how the cider came to be and what possibilities the Cellar Series create for our most innovative hard cider styles.
We hope you enjoy Woodchuck Cellar Series Dry Hop! To find out where you can find the cider near you, head over to our Cider Locator.
